The chapter started mainly with youth and coaches from St. Matthew AME Church. The chapter has expanded now beyond just the church membership and is open to those throughout the Oranges. The basic training consists of developing skills in 7 oratorical categories, via weekly chapter meetings that coincide with the school year. Twice a year, orators throughout the state, compete individually and a trophy is awarded to the most accomplished chapter.
